2021 Summer Forecast: Significant increase in Cyprus tourism
This summer predicts a significant increase in Cyprus tourism, as everything shows that British and Scandinavian tourists are keen on booking a summer vacation on the most adorable island in the Mediterranean.
An important point of reference is that the largest tourist market of the island is Britain, where in the year 2019 it recorded over 1.3 million arrivals representing one third of the total.
According to a holiday atlas published by British tour operator TUI, British tourists rank Cyprus once again as one of the top tourist destinations for the summer.
According to the publication, TUI’s Holiday Atlas places Cyprus among the top four most popular destinations for Norwegians, Danes, Swedes, and Finns, behind the Greek islands, Mallorca and Antalya.
TUI saw an overnight growth of 500% regarding bookings on the day after the UK PM’s announcement that restrictions on air flights could be lifted after 17 May. At the same time, Thomas Cook said it witnessed a 100% increase in website traffic and was flooded with bookings for Cyprus, Greece, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic.
EasyJet revealed a 630% increase in holiday bookings and a 337% increase in flight bookings.
In a statement, Thomas Cook chief executive Alan French, said: “The announcement by the government on Tuesday is good news for those of us who are desperate to go on holiday.”
Adding, “While we await more details, it’s clear that the government’s ambition is to open up international travel in the coming months and hopefully in time for the summer holidays.”
Furthermore, in their recent financial results, TUI revealed that for this summer, it recorded about 2.8 million bookings, representing 80% of bookings in 2019. Reportedly, some 2 million seats will be allocated for Cyprus flights, compared to 3.4 million seats in 2019.
